Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions, we hope they're answered below. If not, please use the "Contact" button below or on the top ribbon to contact someone in the wedding party, especially in the event of an emergency.

Q: When is the wedding?

A: October 5th, 2024! The ceremony will start at 4:30 PM, so please plan to arrive around 4:00 PM to take your seat.

Q: Where is the wedding?

A: The ceremony will be held on Ocracoke Island at The Berkley Manor, the grounds of which include the lawn, Manor (indoors), and Barn (indoors). The ceremony will be on the lawn, and in the event of inclement weather, will be moved to the Barn. Cocktail hour will be held in the Manor, and the rest of the night/reception will be in the Barn!

Q: What is the dress code?

A: The dress code is semi-formal. For example, men should wear suits paired with a traditional colored shirt, either dark suits such as dark blue or black are common, with a nice tie. Ladies, please create a party-ready look while keeping it classy. This can mean a cocktail dress without revealing cutouts, a midi dress at knee-length hemline or something longer that hits above the ankles, or a streamlined jumpsuit with high heels or dress shoes. Remember, the ceremony will be on the lawn but the cocktail hour and reception are a quick walk away and are indoors, for shoe planning purposes.

Q: What will the weather be like?

A: While we can't predict the exact forecast for the day, we'll try to update our website closer with weather predictions. This is extremely important to watch, as October is hurricane season on the Outer Banks. Usually, however, temperatures range from a high of 81 F to a low of 68 F with low chances for the normal summer storms. The island will still be pleasantly warm, and the Atlantic Ocean will be even more so - definitely plan to take a dip in the ocean or spend the day at the beach while you're there! Our rain backup is to hold the ceremony inside of the reception venue.

Q: What will the wedding day timeline look like?

A: Please check out the page "Schedule" on this website for the most up-to-date look at our special day!

Q: How do I get to the venue? Will transportation be provided?

A: You'll find out very quickly once you arrive that Ocracoke is a VERY small island. Spanning only 3 miles wide in the village, you would have to try pretty hard to get lost. That being said, the address of the Berkley Manor is 58 Water Plant Road. Transportation will not be provided - parking will be available onsite and next door at the Park Service Docks, but we highly suggest that you rent a golf cart, bike, or take advantage of how walkable the island is! There are no Ubers or Lyfts or taxis available. Please get home responsibly - the last thing we would EVER want is for someone to get hurt due to drinking at our event. You can get a DUI on a golf cart or a bike, so please plan to walk or have a designated driver if you choose to drink.

Q: Are kids invited?

A: Yes, they are! Please include your kids in your party number when you RSVP. We will ask that kids go to the Berkley Barn during the ceremony (half an hour), where we will have a few babysitters set up. If you have a young child, please arrive early to get them settled. Once the ceremony is over, we will move to the Barn for the reception.

Q: What type of food and drink will be served?

A: Our dinner will be served buffet style, and options for entrees will be baked drum, a vegetarian butternut squash lasagna, and lemon chicken with rice. For the cocktail hour we will have a charcuterie set up and steamed shrimp. Beer and wine will be available at the open bar.

Q: I have dietary restrictions/allergies. What's the best way to let you know?

A: There will be space on the RSVP mail-in card and a comment space on the online RSVP for guests to write any dietary restrictions so we can address them with our caterer. We will be serving local seafood at the wedding, so PLEASE let us know if you have any allergies AT ALL to seafood or shellfish, and to what extent.  This is very important communication as there is NO hospital on the island. If you have further concerns, feel free to reach out to any of the wedding party members on the Contact page.

Q: Are there hotel room blocks for guests?

A: As there are no chain hotels on the island, and all places are locally owned, hotel blocks are not available. We recommend checking out the Accommodations page here on our website to get a head start on booking your lodging. The closest hotel to the wedding venue is the Anchorage Inn (2 min walk).

Q: What's the best way to RSVP?

A: Either sending in the mail-in card included in your invitation, or RSVP-ing to the event on this website, which can be found on the homepage!

Q: When is the RSVP deadline?

A: Say it with us: August 20th, 2024. If we don't have your RSVP in the week after that, we'll be following up via text, email, smoke signal, etc. but please don't make us track you down -- if you're reading this, go RSVP now!

Q: What is there to do on Ocracoke?

A: So many things! Please check out the "Travel Info" page on this website for lots more information, including some of our favorite activities, restaurants, and  landmarks that you might enjoy during your trip.

Q: Do you have a wedding registry?

A: We do! Check out the "Registry" page on this website. We really have through through anything we might need and have been very mindful of the choices - the items we have picked were carefully selected and not chosen "just because"! The list may seem short, but we very sincerely consider everyone's presence at our wedding gift enough. Should you wish to still bring a gift, we urge you to consider a monetary donation to our honeymoon fund instead of something we may not need.
