Love at First Sight

From Championship Rings to Wedding Rings

On December 2nd, 2017, Haley  was finishing up the fall semester of her senior year at Clemson University. The Tigers were slated to play Miami in the 2017 ACC Championship football game, held in Charlotte, NC. Haley had been interning with a company in Charlotte, and hoped to move there full time after graduation. In the meantime though, visiting on weekends would have to do, and there was no better time than during a Clemson game. Haley rode up to Charlotte, along for the ride to one of her friends' legendary tailgates. She invited her Charlotte friends to come along and cheer on her team. One of her friends mentioned that a few people onsite at her workplace were new to Charlotte, and asked if she could invite them to join the tailgate. Said friend mentioned to Haley that one of them was a civil engineer who was "her type".

As you might have guessed, this civil engineer was Nic! Haley and Nic met up later in the evening at the Tin Roof in Charlotte, and talked all night. Haley and Nic's first official date was the 2018 Banana Bar Crawl in Charlotte, an event where everyone dresses up in banana costumes and goes, well, bananas all around the city! They became official not long after, since after someone sees you in a banana costume and still likes you, you know they're the same kind of weird as you are.

Haley graduated from Clemson and moved to Charlotte, while Nic was working in Raleigh. They were long distance for a few years, but made the leap to live in Charlotte together and moved in with each other in 2020. Nic became a cat dad to Haley's two cats, Bee and Cricket, and Haley made way for a whole lot of woodworking and construction tools in the garage. The two even started a small art business together (Mossick & Company).

After almost 5 years of love, laughter, travel, and lots of cat hair and sawdust, Nic surprised Haley by planning a tailgate on December 3rd, 2022, the day of the ACC Championship in Charlotte (Clemson vs. UNC). Haley was somewhat suspicious, but was ultimately very surprised when the tailgate she walked up to was, in fact, NOT her friends' fiancé's coworker's tailgate, but a proposal! Both Haley and Nic's parents were there to celebrate the engagement, along with friends who have been instrumental and dear to their hearts throughout their relationship.
